Border Collie Breeder

If you want to have a high quality Border Collie puppy that would live up to all basic requirements, you should purchase your dog from a reputable and conscientious Border Collie Breeder. If you think you have enough knowledge and devotion or you are perfectly prepared to deal with the hardships of dog ownership, you must realize that no matter how knowledgeable you are now, there will always be something new and useful to learn about the breed.

In many ways, Border Collies are very different from other breeds of dogs. This is one of the few (if not the only) breeds whose standard is based on performance qualities, not the outer look. As we know, any breed standard should be outlined on the basis of a set of specific genetic characteristics that single the breed out from other breeds. With the Border Collie, these are primarily behavioral, mental and temperamental features, which determine the dog’s ability to properly interact with humans and carry out their assigned work. To conclude, it is not the dog’s appearance that Border Collie Breeders must put first in their projects, but its performance level and intelligence. The breed standard does not give a strict outline of the dog’s appearance.

Border Collies are excellent sheep dogs, showing superb droving and gathering abilities. They are responsive to commands from their owners and handlers and can understand a variety of signals. During the nineteenth century, Border Collie Breeders and shepherds concluded that the best way to create a reliable shepherding companion was to use the genes of other breeds in order to inculcate as many herding traits to the dog as possible. Those dogs were supposed to possess exceptional stamina, enviable endurance and they had to be crazy about their job. In fact, this is much more difficult than creating a dog with a uniform appearance. For this reason, breeding Border Collies is very difficult and requires great experience and devotion.

As a rule, Border Collies are of medium size (25-55 pounds), with smooth or rough coats. Coat colors are usually black, black with tan, tan and white, black and white, reddish-brown, as well as some other colors. The eyes are usually brown, but it is admissible that a Border Collie has eyes of different colors, which is a disqualification for other breeds. Border Collies are high energy dogs, and they do not make great lap companions. They are ardent workers and require a lot of activity, so they are more accustomed to country life. These dogs are self-assured and quite assertive, and they can be short with children. They tend to practice their herding instincts on children and other animals, and should be taught not to do this. Because of their specific nature and breeding and training requirements, it is absolutely mandatory that you buy a Border Collie puppy from a reputable Border Collie Breeder.
